Ambulance activist Alice scoops young member of the year award

Alice led the way in building for industrial action in Dorset.

Alice Foxen, from Bournemouth ambulance station, has been named Young Member of the Year at this year’s Get Active awards ceremony.

Alice, a paramedic, played a vital role in recruiting and organising young members in Dorset earlier this year when ambulance staff took industrial action on pay. Alice used social media to keep members informed and motivated, resulting in an increasing number of picket lines coordinated and administered by her.

Alice was nominated by Chris Hewett who said:

“Despite facing challenges such as her relative isolation as a union representative and the spread of misinformation by management during the industrial action, Alice remained professional and engaged with senior reps to ensure members felt supported. She has also been an excellent advocate for UNISON, maintaining the union’s profile and showing herself to be an exemplary leader.”

Alice’s work and achievements have had a positive impact on young members across the South West, serving as a model for other young members and demonstrating the power of collective action.

Congratulations to Alice!
