Parking enforcement supervisors in Dorset share £40,000 in backpay

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our UNISON reps”

Parking enforcement supervisors working for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council are sharing over £40,000 in backpay after a grading error was spotted by UNISON.

Earlier this year, one of the parking enforcement supervisors noticed that they were being paid at a lower band than they should have been.

Investigations, in collaboration with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council, found that supervisors had been on the incorrect band for over two and a half years.

UNISON stewards Adam Rowlands and Julie Spencer worked with the council’s HR and parking management teams to successfully negotiate over £40,000 in backpay which was shared between five members of staff.

Four members of staff were also moved from temporary contracts and given permanent roles at the council.

One parking enforcement officer said: “This backpay could not have come at a better time. It has landed in our November pay packets and is a lovely bonus.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of our UNISON reps, so a big thank you must go to Adam and Julie.”

UNISON rep Adam Rowlands said: “I’m delighted that we were able to work with the council to secure backpay on behalf of our members. It has been a long journey, but the outcome was definitely worth the wait.”
