Re-banding of Emergency Care Assistants moves a step closer

ECAs are campaigning to be re-banded from grade 3 to grade 4.

Emergency Care Assistants supported by UNISON are working with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SWAST) to re-evaluate their job roles.

In a meeting on Friday 8th December a group of Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs) met with representatives from the Trust to undertake a series of activities to enable them to gather insight into the current roles and duties ECA’s undertake.

South West Ambulance and Allied Health UNISON branch secretary Jo Fowles said: “We had a really constructive and positive day, where everyone worked collaboratively to capture the details we need to work on a revised job description, to truly reflect the value our ECAs bring to our patients.”

SWAST’s assistant director of operations Rich Marlow said: “The complexities of a project like this are numerous and I must emphasise that the work will continue over several months before any conclusions are reached at which point UNISON will ballot members.”

There will be further engagement activities in the new year to work through the Agenda for Change job evaluation process.
