UNISON staff working across the South West have joined together for a fundraising bid in aid of the union’s charity, There for You.

The group will run the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 16th October and hope to raise funds that will enable the charity to continue it’s work supporting UNISON members with the cost of living.

There for You offers grants for school uniform costs, electric and gas bills over winter as well as supporting members through Branch Welfare Officers when things get tough.

The organisers running include; Kerry Baigent, Corrie Drew, Jon Dunn, Tom Hemmings, Debbie Hudson, Sophie Jones, Chris Roche and Sarah Woodward.

Tom Hemmings, UNISON area organiser coordinating the run, said:

“With inflation running at 11.8% and UNISON members pay falling in real terms over the past decade, we know that many people are being hit hard by the cost of living crisis.

“We’re incredibly proud of the work that the union’s charity, There for You, does from school uniform grants to the COVID response fund, our members need their help more that ever before.

“We can’t wait to take on the challenge of the Bath Half Marathon, many of us have never done this distance before so we wanted to push ourselves and raise some money along the way.

“We would be grateful for any donations received and we’ll keep you updated on our progress as we get closer to October.”
