Free event to celebrate women across the South West

Join us at the Blakehay Theatre on Friday 8 March

The contribution women across the South West make to their workplaces, families and wider society is to be celebrated in a special event being organised by UNISON next week.

The union – three quarters of whose members are women – is organising an international women’s day (IWD) event in Weston-super-Mare on Friday 8 March.

The free event, which takes place at the Blakehay Theatre from 12.30-3pm, is part of a series of UK-wide IWD ‘Inspire Inclusion’ events promoting the participation of women and girls of all ages in every walk of life and to develop female talent.

Speakers include deputy leader of North Somerset Council, councillor Catherine Gibbons and UNISON South West regional manager, Karen Williams.

Guided audience activities will complement the speakers’ testimonials, and resources will be available from local groups to signpost women to support agencies.

Booking is essential and seats can be reserved via the Blakehay Theatre website.

UNISON North Somerset women’s officer Karen Morgan said: “The purpose of the event is to celebrate women’s work, whether this is paid, voluntary, in the home, the community, in a union, at director level, or hidden and undervalued.

“It’s hoped that as many women as possible across the South West will come along to share their experiences and listen to the stories of others attending.”
