Our annual Get Active event is heading to Taunton!
This year’s event is on the theme ‘get inspired – get involved – get active’ and we’ll be taking over Holiday Inn Taunton from Friday 19th – Saturday 20th May 2023.
Here’s the outline timetable (subject to alteration):
Friday
10.00 – arrival and registration
10.30 – welcome and introductions
10.45 – plenary session 1: “you are here!” – an interactive guide to UNISON’s structures
11.45 – refreshment break
12.00 – plenary session 2: discussion panel of striking workers, chaired by Ines Lage, SW TUC regional secretary
13.00 – lunch
14.00 – plenary sesion 3: impact of the cost of living crisis on women and how “There for You” (UNISON’s welfare charity) can help members (introduced by the SW women’s committee)
15.00 – refreshment break
15.15 – workshops (see link below for more details)
16.45 – workshops end
18.30 – drinks reception (sponsored by Thompsons Solicitors)
19.00 – dinner and awards evening, followed by DJ/disco
Saturday
09.00 – arrival and registration
09.30 – plenary session 4: UNISON’s year of Black workers – establishing legacy to inspire change
11.00 – refreshment break
11.15 – workshops
12.30 – close and recap

Book your place
Delegates must have the approval of your branch to attend Get Active. Branches are responsible for all costs associated with attending the event including travel and accommodation.
Once you have spoken to your branch, please book your place below. NB – booking deadline is 12 noon on Wednesday 26 April.
Workshops
You’ll be able to choose two of the following workshops when booking:
- How to be a good trans ally
- Campaigning and organising workers
- Call me by my name – ensuring our identity is protected, getting members involved with branches and supporting Black members to know their rights at work
- Strike! How to organise to win a ballot and take strike action
- Women’s health and safety in all of our workplaces
Awards Dinner
On Friday evening our famous Awards dinner will again be open to all delegates attending Get Active.
The awards include:

- Bob Cotton Health and Safety Award
