UNISON works in partnership with The Open University. The purpose of the partnership was to increase participation in education among workers delivering public sector services. Many members have accessed Open University courses and training. The courses are delivered by experienced Open University Lecturers and has received excellent feedback from members who attend the courses.

In partnership with the Open University this CPD accredited course will help you understand:

– What is meant by the term ‘dementia’

– Causes and types of dementia

-How having dementia affects the way a person behaves and functions

-That there is more to a person than the dementia

-That it is possible to live well with dementia

This workshop will be run via Microsoft TEAMS. This workshop has 25 spaces available which are booked on a first come first served basis.

You may want to make your Branch Union Learning Representative or Education Officer aware that you are attending this course to link with other learners or join the local learning network

If you are in need of support to request time off from your work to attend please talk to the branch to gain support.

These sessions are being held in the morning but if you are on shift or working and want to attend you may be able to negotiate time off from your workplace.

You may have a local policy or learning agreement to support with gaining reasonable time off to attend our learning from your employer. There is also guidance via ACAS – Time off advice
