For UNISON’s Year of Black Workers, UNISON South West has handed over the UNIZONE to our regional Black members group who have curated the following line up for you.

Saturday 15 July

11:00 – 12:00 performance poet Lawrence Hoo – a poet and educator from Bristol, his work is known for throwing a powerful light onto the overlooked experiences of those living in Bristol’s under-supported communities.

12:00 – 14:00 panel discussion: long COVID – with Dr Donald Palmer (associate professor of immunology, Royal Veterinary College) & Dr Gwenetta Curry (lecturer of race, ethnicity and health, University of Edinburgh)

14:00 – 15:00 African drummer Richard Davis – from World Jungle in Bristol and former founding member of Ekome Arts in Bristol.

15:00 – 16:00 panel discussion: lived experiences of Black members at work – we will be joined by Aisha Thomas (director of Representation Matters) and members of the UNISON South West Black members’ committee.

Sunday 16 July

We will be joined on the march by the Bristol Sambistas samba band, so come and dance through the village with the UNISON bloc.
