The consultative pay ballot closed at midday on Wednesday 12 November.

What the Unions asked for

The joint unions (UNISON, UCU, Unite, GMB, NEU) put in a joint pay claim to the Associations of Colleges (AoC). This is the body that makes recommendations on pay awards to FE colleges in England.

This asked for A 10% or £3000 increase in pay, whichever is greater. This is a first step to restore the significant cuts to pay over the past 15 years.

The AoC responded with a recommendation of 4%. It is a recommendation so colleges can follow it but many do not.
UNISON’s position is that all colleges should implement the pay recommendation. Colleges received additional funding from central government this year and we expect all colleges to use this funding to make a pay award of at least 4%. Read more about UNISON’s FE Pay Campaign 2025/2026
