Tim Roberts appointed regional secretary for UNISON South West

“I’m really pleased to be joining the region at a time when UNISON members are continuing to show the power of collective action”

Tim Roberts has been appointed regional secretary for UNISON South West, joining the region as part of a leadership swap with Kerry Baigent, who moves to the same role in UNISON Eastern.

Tim joined UNISON at the age of 22 after becoming active as a workplace steward and branch officer while working at the University of the West of England. He went to be a member of both Somerset and Bristol local government branches and played an active role in the union’s national and regional lay democracy.

In 2011, Tim became a regional organiser in UNISON Eastern, working with health and police branches across Essex and Suffolk. In 2016 he was promoted to regional manager and became regional secretary in 2020.

Commenting on his appointment, Tim said:

“The South West is a region with a strong history of workplace organisation and winning for members. I’m really pleased to be joining the region at a time when UNISON members are continuing to show the power of collective action.

“My focus will be on supporting branches to organise, build strength in workplaces and win real improvements on pay, jobs and public services.”
