Migrant workers from across the South West took to Parliament to lobby MPs on unfair visa restrictions.

On Thursday 28 November, migrant workers in UNISON gathered at the Houses of Parliament for a powerful lobby aimed at securing crucial reforms to the Tier 2 visa system. The event brought together UNISON members working in health and care, to meet with MPs and raise awareness of the issues faced by migrant healthcare workers in the UK.

The lobby included meetings with several MPs, such as Labour’s Neil Duncan-Jordan and co-leader of the Green Party, Carla Denyer.

Following the event, Neil Duncan-Jordan tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) calling for reform of the Tier 2 visa system and the introduction of a Certificate of Common Sponsorship. This proposed change would allow migrant healthcare workers to switch employers within the sector without putting their visa status at risk, providing greater job security and better protection from exploitation.
