Over the weekend our regional LGBT+ self-organised group (SOG) gathered in Taunton for their AGM, perfectly timed with Taunton Pride. Despite the rainy weather, spirits were high as the group took to the streets armed with rainbow umbrellas, bringing vibrant colour to the grey skies.
Friday evening kicked off with a warm social gathering at the Great Western Hotel, where members mingled, sharing stories, and gearing up for the busy weekend ahead.
By Saturday morning, the rain might have dampened the town, but it certainly didn’t dampen the energy. As the Pride march began, UNISON members proudly joined the procession, rainbow umbrellas in hand, spreading joy and solidarity through the streets. The march was a true celebration of diversity and unity, with members engaging the public throughout the day, sharing the work UNISON continues to do with the LGBT+ community.
On Sunday, members met for the AGM and discussed the progress made over the past year and planned for what’s to come. Elections for key roles and important discussions on constitutional changes were the focus, ensuring that LGBT+ voices remain strong and heard within the union. Over lunch, ideas for future campaigns and initiatives were exchanged, with members committed to making the coming year even more impactful.
Despite the drizzle, UNISON’s South West LGBT+ SOG made sure Taunton Pride was bursting with colour and energy, while their AGM set the course for another year of powerful activism.
