Photos: UNISON members join anti-fascist demo in Bristol

One thing was clear – refugees are welcome in Bristol ❤️

Hundreds of UNISON members gathered at Lawrence Hill train station in Bristol last night and joined the incredible counter-demo in the city.

The demonstration was organised following reports far-right groups were set to target organisations in Bristol who supported asylum seekers.

The union presence was strong, with comrades from sister unions also joining the demonstration.

One thing was clear – refugees are welcome in Bristol.

Central Bristol Health UNISON rep Rob Mitchell spoke to Bristol Post at the demo: “We’ve come out today to show people that Bristol is an anti-racist city. We won’t tolerate racists or far-right fascists on our streets.

“We saw some really horrible scenes up and down the country on Saturday, including in Bristol where they tried to attack a hotel housing asylum seekers – including lots of children who have gone through a lot of trauma getting into this country.

“We want to say that all refugees and migrants are welcome in this country. We want to protect our communities from the far-right and from the fascists.”

"We are Bristol, who are you?" written on a UNISON placard. Demonstrators can be seen in the background.
