Stars in our Schools, the annual UNISON celebration day, takes place today (Friday). Just two days after the chancellor announced a public sector pay freeze, the day seeks to recognise the incredible work school support staff undertake.
Over the past few weeks UNISON South West has invited members to make nominations for Stars in our Schools.
Louise Cutler, Parent Support Advisor at Glen Park Primary School in Plymouth was nominated by Sharon Lowther, a parent at the school.
Sharon said:
“Louise is amazing, she is so supportive and always available when you need her. She always has time for everyone all the children love her.
“Louise has helped the school raise thousands through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and always has so many ideas when children need extra support.
“Louise is definitely a star!”
UNISON South West regional secretary Joanne Kaye said:
“Over the past few months school support staff have stepped up more than ever before; cleaning classrooms to protect colleagues and children from infection, keeping IT systems up and running for home learning and ensuring that every child entitled to a free school meal didn’t go hungry.
“Cleaners, catering workers, teaching assistants, administrators and technicians have all helped keep schools open, in exceptionally challenging circumstances. The chancellor may have forgotten school support staff, but UNISON has not.”
