Over 100 new activists trained during COVID-19 pandemic

With learning at the dining table the “new normal”, things have had to change.

Zooming into homes across the South West, our regional education team have trained 107 new workplace representatives so far this year.

Embracing the technology available, the team have transformed a classroom based programme to enable them deliver it online and at times which suit members.

A further 20 new workplace representatives have just started their online training courses.

UNISON aims to have 1 workplace represantive for every 25 UNISON members in a workplace.

UNISON South West regional education organiser, Mark Everden, said:

“In March we rather optimistly postponed training until May. We quickly realised that this wasn’t going to be an option and that classroom learning wouldn’t be returning for the forseeable future.

“As a team we have worked around the clock to adjust our programme and ways of working to meet the needs of UNISON members across the region.

“I’m delighted with the figures announced today and it’s a testament to the hard work of my colleagues who have liaised with tutors, changed our booking processes, learnt new ways of working and kept members informed throughout.

“We’re now busy preparing our 2021 programme and can’t wait to unveil all the brilliant opprortunities we have in store.”
