We are pleased to advise that we have this week started sending out cheques to those UNISON members eligible for a share of UNISON’s Employment Tribunal settlement.
As you will be aware UNISON secured this financial settlement after we settled an Employment Tribunal case against Somerset County Council. We secured this for the union as the council had failed to properly inform and consult with union officials about the impact on 1,100 employees transferring to Discovery on 1 April 2017.
This week cheques have been issued to those eligible members on UNISON subscription bands A and B earning less than £5,000. Shares have been calculated based on the UNISON subscription band of members in 2017 when the transfer took place and should equate to approximately three weeks salary for the majority of members. We will issue the remaining cheques to all eligible members early in the New Year.
Unfortunately this has taken far longer than we anticipated, a large part of this delay has been caused by the significant numbers of people still contacting us daily to request updates or to know if they are eligible, please bear with us. If you are eligible you will receive a cheque and we will provide an update again to advise when we have completed our issuing of cheques.
We want to again thank all members who have remained with us since the transfer, your continued membership of the union helps us to secure settlements like this.
