Confidence in public speaking and debate skills– A Getting Your Voice Heard Pathway Course  

This course is a NEW VERSION of our public speaking course. 

Being confident in speaking in public, whether in a members meeting, the branch or at UNISON conferences is a key activist skill.  Another key skill is the art of debate to win people over to the values and ideas of trade unionism. This 2-day course will cover both skills and give you confidence to speak up, inspire people and get our message out there.  

This course will cover:  

  • How to write an effective speech 
  • Techniques and skills in delivering a speech 
  • Confidence in speaking 
  • Speaking at UNISON conferences  
  • The use of storytelling in getting our ideas across  
  • How to debate ideas effectively

Who is this course for:  All UNISON activists, reps and officers

If you are in need of support to request time off from your work to attend please talk to the branch to gain support.

When attending any UNISON course or event you should never be out of pocket. Please keep receipts for parking , bus fare , train travel and speak with your branch about claiming these costs back or for gaining support for them to help you book in advance.

You may have a local policy to support with gaining reasonable time off to attend training from your employer. There is also guidance via ACAS – Time off advice

Note for Branches

For branches that pay the levy, the cost of the course is fully covered under the scheme. However, for those not participating in the levy scheme, there is a standard charge of £40 per attendee.
