This course is aimed at anyone who needs to update or write a CV but is unsure how to do this and will include:
• Looking at the steps needed to create a good CV
• Exploring what employers are looking for in a CV
• Identifying common mistakes

Introduction to Word
This is a practical workshop that aims to help you develop confidence in using a laptop or computer and access software. During the course, you will be using a laptop and accessing Microsoft Word, which you will need to have on your device, to create a document. This could be in the form of a letter or a personal statement.

Participants will need MICROSOFT OFFICE INSTALLED on their computer or laptop before the session starts.

Communicate with confidence
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to be more confident in their communication skills, talking to unfamiliar people, emails, phone calls and other means of communication. It covers the following:
• Identifying how we communicate
• Recognising personal communication skills
• Reflecting upon effective communication techniques
• Improving confidence in unfamiliar situations

This is an introduction to Excel and developing a simple spreadsheet. Participants may progress to more in-depth courses exploring Excel at a future date

Filling in job applications
This course is for anyone who is applying for a job and would like some guidance and advice. The course will include:
• Guidance on the type of information the various sections of an application form might need.
• How to avoid simple mistakes
• Ideas to include in your personal statement

Introduction to PowerPoint
This is a basic introduction to PowerPoint and how it may be used in different contexts to apply for jobs or to present ideas for a project. Participants may wish to progress to a more in-depth course at a later date.

Participants will need MICROSOFT OFFICE INSTALLED on their computer or laptop before the session starts.

Each session has a capacity for 8 ppl.

All of these courses are delivered online and provided free of charge for UNISON members. You will, however, need a computer or a tablet with a stable internet connection, as well as a built in or external microphone and camera to attend the course.

To be able to take part in online learning you will be sent a zoom invitation to your email with your access code.

What happens once you’ve signed up?

– By completing this form our education team will send your details to the LearnDevon Team
– Enrolment will include you signing up with LearnDevon using an online form ( ipeg Form)
– A log in link to the online session will be sent to you to log in to the online interactive classroom. This course will run via ZOOM an online platform.
– An email will be sent to confirm your space on the course and details on accessing the course at a later date

You may want to make your Branch Union Learning Representative or Education Officer aware that you are attending this course to link with other learners or join the local learning network

If you are in need of support to request time off from your work to attend please talk to the branch to gain support.

If you are on shift or working and want to attend you may be able to negotiate time off from your workplace. We hope that employers see the benefit of these sessions to build your skills and confidence for career progression and personal development.

You may have a local policy or learning agreement to support with gaining reasonable time off to attend our learning from your employer. There is also guidance via ACAS – Time off advice
