Derriford – HCSW Ballot

Following negotiations with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust management on the potential re-banding of Health Care Support Workers from a band 2 to a band 3, UNISON is asking members to vote on the outcome of those talks.

Your UNISON reps recommend that you accept the proposals.

A summary of the proposals

The Trust have put forward the following offer for members to vote upon whether to accept or reject this offer, the offer is as follows:

  • Rebanding nearly all Band 2 HCSWs to Band 3
  • Top of Band 3 if over 2 years in HCSW role
  • Pay protection for unsocial hours working
  • Compensatory payment of up to £5,000 pro rata
  • Including ICA’s, HCSW apprentices and retire and returnees

Compensatory payment
If your length of service is the following:

  • From Sep 23 to Sep 24 – 0 to 1 years service – you will receive between £0 – £949
  • From Sep 22 to Sep 23 – 1 to 2 years service – you will receive between £949 – £1,898
  • From Sep 21 to Sep 22 – 2 to 3 years service – you will receive between £2,000 – £3,000
  • From Sep 20 to Sep 21 – 3 to 4 years service – you will receive between £3,000 – £4,000
  • From Sep 19 to Sep 20 – 4 to 5 years service – you will receive between £4,000 – £5,000
  • From Sep 18 to Sep 19 – Over 5 years service – you will receive £5,000

UNISON has looked at the proposals, and recognises they are the best that can be achieved by negotiation in the current financial situation.

We are only asking for your views on the overall proposal for moving Band 2 HCSWs to Band 3 with the offer of a compensatory payment. If these proposals are accepted by trade union members, your employer will then begin a formal consultation period where you will be asked individually whether you wish to accept their offer.

The ballot is open until noon on Monday 4 November 2024.
