UNISON Devon County Local Government Branch is seeking to appoint a part-time caseworker.
The role will provide advice, representation, support and guidance to branch members employed in the voluntary, community and private sectors, including academy schools. The role will also support branch campaigns.
The successful applicant will have strong communication skills, both face-to-face and written. Previous experience as a trade union representative and knowledge of local government terms and conditions would be desirable. However, a good understanding of employment law is essential. The ability to work flexibly, under pressure and to respond to members in a timely way is crucial, as is the ability to work on your own initiative. The role will also require travel across Devon to various workplaces.
In addition to casework, the successful candidate will provide administrative cover for the branch during periods of leave. This will involve responding to queries by phone and email. The role also includes attending meetings on behalf of the branch, as well as internal branch meetings. Some meetings may take place outside normal office hours.
