Sirona gives notice on care contract in Bath

Care workers, catering and domestic support staff working for Sirona care & health were today (Thursday) informed that Sirona has given notice to terminate its contract to run the Residential and Extra Care Services on behalf of Bath and North East Somerset.

Sirona have given 12 months notice to cease running 8 homes in Bath, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton.

The announcement comes months after over 100 Sirona staff walked out over cuts to pay and changes to shift patterns.

UNISON regional organiser John Drake said:

“I have no doubt that today’s decision is an inevitable consequence of UNISON’s dispute with Sirona last year where over 100 care workers took strike action.

“This also serves as clear confirmation that adult social care is in crisis and services should be under council control in order to give the best service to the community of Bath.

“We will be meeting our members as a matter of urgency and will work with them to lobby the council to bring the service back in house.”
