Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival kicks off on Friday 19 July.
Over in the Unizone, as well as our usual stalls and information, our Dorset Black Members Groups have put on a packed programme of music, discussions about racism – as well as a quiz!

12:30 – 13:30: Drop in session – meet the Black Members Group and our guest speaker, UNISON Assistant General Secretary, Roger McKenzie.
13:30 – 15:00: Drumming workshop – on the stage or lawns outside the shop, run by Cheikh Diop, Djembe Master Drummer – learn how to drum and even a few dance moves for tomorrow’s march!
15:00 – 15:30: Black History Quiz (yes, there are prizes!)
15:30 – 16:00: Ade Bambgoye (Speaker) – on his experiences of Black workers coming to the UK in the 1960s and 1970s.
16:00 – 16:30: Racism in the classroom – a group of young people with their own spoken word performance on their experiences of racism in the classroom – this may be on the stage outside the shop or in the Unizone.
16:30 – 17:15: Mbira Group – Traditional African Music.
17:45 – 18:30: Afro Tallawah Group – get in the singing and dancing mood early evening with a World Music Afro-Cuban mix.

Our Dorset Black Members Groups have thrown their hearts and souls into making Tolpuddle a more diverse and exciting space, as well as encouraging schoolchildren to come and talk about the reality of racism. Please come and give them as much support as possible.
